Painting with Light - Laptop by neon280 Painting with Light - Laptop by neon280
My second light painting. I used a mag light and my Point & Shoot camera.

I used a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100, and tweaked with the settings to get the exposure time to about 7 seconds. I want a DSLR

I took multiple pictures, and combined them in Gimp

Try setting your SLR (if you can do it) up for a long exposure with black and white film, then use one in colour. If that makes sense, you can get sorta 'fragmented colour' once you combine them... its hard to explain, it took some time for me to do it with mine to get a good result, but when you do, its really really worth it.

Thanks for the tip. But I actually took this with a point and shoot camera. :) I can't afford an SLR.

WhyIsMyKittyAButt

You probably need to put it on a tripod, as holding the button down will cause movement and you will lose the definition of the item. 20 seconds can be quiet a long time, usually the shorter the better as other light can interfere etc etc. Try setting it up on a tripod. Read your manual to find out the timer.

Yeah, I don't know how your camera works, so I suggest just getting to know it, and continuing to experiment with it. :)

Haha, I have a half-decent Sony point and shoot camera. The maximum exposure at a time I can get is about 7 seconds. However the macro photo's it can take are amazing! :)

now when you were painting were you pointing your light at the camera or were you close to your subject pointing right at it?

I took a mini-maglight and took off the projector part to expose the bulb.

Once you do that, it sends light in every direction so it wouldn't matter where I pointed it.
